Chef Dan Sherley decided to open RUKI Robatayaki in a matter of weeks. With scaffolding wrapping around the former Rookie Eatery premises, an opportunity to reimagine the beloved diner presented itself.
The brief was tight: Izakaya-style charcoal grill and bar. Six weeks to launch.
RUKI was born.
We built the RUKI brand with an eclectic collage we called 90s Japanese Americano bootleg. A chaotic and fun collision of east and west, garnished with Harrison Ford beer ads for effect.
We project managed the roll out, from social post to coaster and everything in between.
Week one, the place was slammed. Since then RUKI hasn’t let up, carving out its own spot in Wollongong’s competitive culinary scene.
